Wolfgang Winter                                                                Berthold Hörbelt

Dear visitor, hello and thank you for visiting our website.

If you want a few words about us:

Since 1992 the artists Wolfgang Winter and Berthold Hörbelt have worked together as Winter / Hoerbelt.

While we were first trained as a jazz pianist and stonemasons, our interest in the medium of sculpture grew. At art school we found shared artistic concerns and started developing projects under common authorship. In the case of Sculpture teamwork is not so unusual. Approximately 2000 years ago the Laocoon Group was developed by a team of sculptors, Athanadoros, Hagesandros and Polydoros from Rhodes. Today nobody asks who was the hammer and who the chisel.

We explore sculpture with a focus on the perception of society, situations and space, often we include a physical interaction of people with our works. We mostly work with everyday industrial products, such as plastic crates or metal fencing – mass produced products brought into the world for a purpose, that are then transformed for artistic use. Our works stand as autonomous sculptures, but often imply a physical level of experience. An openness of interpretation is important to us as an offer to recipients. For us, sculpture is the medium with the greatest relationship to reality.
